The New Hampshire State House Subcommittee of the Science, Technology, and Energy Committee has voted for further policy action regarding the issue of radio-frequency radiation. (WiFi)

Excerpt: New Hampshire lawmakers voted to recommend action on the issue of wireless radio-frequency (RF) radiation. This is a historic action by New Hampshire legislatures and will result in the proposal of new statewide legislation addressing cell towers and wireless networks….. “The majority of animal and cell studies have found non-ionizing RFR can induce oxidative stress- a key characteristic of human carcinogens and a way that RFR can initiate or promote tumor development as well as play a role in the development of other diseases. DNA damage and cancer in these state of the art studies signal the need for the public to reduce exposures to RFR now.”…SNIP

German court finds property owners can be liable for health impacts from base station antennas on their property

Excerpt: From the Swedish Radiation Protection Foundation

    Google translation:

A German court has clarified in a lawsuit that property owners who rent space for base stations and mobile towers assume responsibility for health consequences of the activity. Although the radiation is lower than the relevant reference values from the authorities, this does not mean that the property owner is not responsible for negative health consequences. According to Björn Gillberg, the same responsibility principles also apply in Sweden…SNIP

Pittsfield Board of Health votes to send cease and desist order to Verizon for cell tower

Excerpt: PITTSFIELD, Mass. – After months of neighbors calling for action, the Pittsfield Board of Health voted unanimously Wednesday to send a cease and desist order to Verizon if the company doesn’t address concerns over the cell tower at the top of Alma Street. “This is a historic moment for the health and safety of our neighborhood,” said Courtney Gilardi, who has been leading the neighborhood’s efforts against the tower for the past 17 months. “The board has always had the ability to do what is right, and now they have the will to do what is right.”

When we visited the neighborhood last spring, many residents said they were experiencing symptoms they never had before. This week, those issues are still around…SNIP

“My symptoms are ongoing and have worsened,” said Elaine Ireland, a neighborhood resident. “I never was one to have headaches before. I’m getting regular headaches, ringing in the ears that, it just gets in the way of everyday life.”

Petition: Stop Mobile Towers Staining our World Heritage Landscapes:

    From Melissa Hallett
Stop Mobile Towers Staining our World Heritage Landscapes: Wollumbin (Mt Warning), Border Ranges, Nightcap Range, Mullumbimby, Byron Bay & surrounding Hinterlands.

To all on the EMFacts list:

I have been working on behalf of our regional community residents regarding our concerns for the saturation of mobile phone towers being proposed within our World Heritage parks and the surrounding landscapes ; of the Northern rivers, NSW. Our World heritage region between the majestic Wollumbin (Mt warning) the Border Ranges and across to the Nightcap & McPherson range, spreads also out over the Queensland border into the lamington ranges and way back across to Byron Bay and more. “These rainforests hold half of Australia’s plant species” (National Geographic). These regions have existing ongoing cultural and ceremonial significant heritage for the Bundjalung Nation. Many of these mobile phone towers are being placed in environmentally sensitive areas within the caldera of these magnificent places, imposing on the corridors that connect and enable wildlife that seek out food, breeding migration and pollination between these places which are of complex and ancient biodiversity. We want to stop these massive towers going up. They are staining the very integrity of these landscapes…SNIP

A non-thermal bio-effect: EMR From Cellphone Towers May Amplify Pain in Amputees

Electromagnetic Field From Cellphone Towers May Amplify Pain in Amputees

    Neuroscience News February 3, 2016

    Open Neuroscience Articles

For years, retired Maj. David Underwood has noticed that whenever he drove under power lines and around other electromagnetic fields, he would feel a buzz in what remained of his arm. When traveling by car through Texas’ open spaces, the buzz often became more powerful.

“When roaming on a cellphone in the car kicked in, the pain almost felt like having my arm blown off again,” said Underwood, an Iraq War veteran who was injured by an improvised explosive device (IED). His injuries have resulted in 35 surgeries and the amputation of his left arm. Shrapnel from the IED also tore part of his leg and left him with more than 100 smaller wounds. “I didn’t notice the power lines, cellphones on roam or other electromagnetic fields until I first felt them in my arm.”

Until a recent study led by researchers at The University of Texas at Dallas was published online last month in PLOS ONE, there was no scientific evidence to back up the anecdotal stories of people, such as Underwood, who reported aberrant sensations and neuropathic pain around cellphone towers and other technology that produce radio-frequency electromagnetic fields.

“Our study provides evidence, for the first time, that subjects exposed to cellphone towers at low, regular levels can actually perceive pain,” said Dr. Mario Romero-Ortega, senior author of the study and an associate professor of bioengineering in the University’s Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. “Our study also points to a specific nerve pathway that may contribute to our main finding.”

NOTE: This posting is a follow-up from my posting of August 26 2015

From Ronnie Burns, founder of Appin Hall.

    Excerpt

In July this year, Appin Hall received notice regarding an application to Kentish Council that the NBNCo (+ Ericsson Australia) were proposing to erect a 60met high telecommunications facility within 20met of our northern neighbouring property. In response to this development application, we submitted a Letter of Objection to Kentish Council based on the fact that many of our clients (children suffering serious illness) are already compromised due to
    illness, treatment + chemotherapy.

After months of begging the powers that be: Local Council, the Tasmanian Government and the then Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull (and others) the outcome was that no response was forthcoming…

    Welcome
This website is published by EMR Aware, a not-for-profit community association based in Byron Shire on the Northcoast of NSW Australia. We offer technical support to residents and government agencies in our vicinity, and worldwide, regarding the health, social and environmental impacts of technologies that subject users to electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

We are not anti-technology or anti-corporation. Our premise is simply this. In instances where products or services carry a documented risk consumers have a right to know the benefits vs. potential negative impacts. This enables both a change in habits, and motivation to demand safer products or legislation where appropriate.

Just how powerful are 4G towers?

From Echonetdaily, The North Coast’s Independent News (Queensland,Australia):

Mullumbimby 4G Telstra tower disrupts TV, EFTPOS

If Mullumbimby residents and businesses are having TV reception issues and EFTPOS drop outs, the recent upgraded Telstra tower in the town’s CBD appears to be the culprit. Court House manager Laurie Driscoll told The Echo the 4G Telstra tower across the road on Dalley Street has caused havoc with the TV signal and EFTPOS. ‘A lot of people in the vicinity may have the same problem,’ he said. ‘Thankfully Telstra have accepted liability, and agreed to reimburse us for the cost of having to buy and install a $400 filter to reduce the 4G interference on our TVs.’

UK mobile phone company banned from erecting a mast because of health fears.

From The Daily Mail, Sunday, Aug 17th 2014

    War on the phone masts

    by NILUFER ATIK, Daily Mail

A mobile phone company has been banned from erecting a mast because of health fears. The decision is the first of its kind by Government planning inspectors. They rejected an application by Orange to erect a 30ft mast in a residential area because of the ‘serious harm’ it could cause to those living nearby. The landmark move is expected to have major implications for hundreds of similar cases nationwide. Community groups and safety campaigners have repeatedly expressed fears about the masts – which send and receive mobile phone signals -because of the possible radiation dangers. There are fears of a link between microwave radiation from masts and conditions ranging from cancer to blood clots in the brain. Orange wanted to erect the mast in Harrow, North-West London. The council refused the application last May after residents expressed their concerns.

A 5G base station on every house and lamp pole…..

On ABC’s ‘The Business’ last night, Malcolm Turnbull talked about the need for rolling out 5G in Australia and that this would require many more mobile base stations – smaller ones, but many of them. He raised the possibility to one day have a base station on every house and every lamp post!

I wonder, in such a brave new interconnected world would homeowners be given the option to refuse a base station on their home? Not so if we look at the smart meter rollout in Victoria as one example. I suspect that smart meters will be able be upgraded to also work as a 5G base station.

    See it for yourselves:

Neighborhood Cell Towers & Antennas–Do They Impact a Property’s Desirability?

    From the Electromagnetic Health.org

    Excerpt:

The National Institute for Science, Law and Public Policy’s survey “Neighborhood Cell Towers & Antennas–Do They Impact a Property’s Desirability?” initiated June 2, 2014, has now been completed by 1,000 respondents as of June 28, 2014. The survey, which circulated online through email and social networking sites, in both the U.S. and abroad, sought to determine if nearby cell towers and antennas, or wireless antennas placed on top of or on the side of a building, would impact a home buyer’s or renter’s interest in a real estate property.

The overwhelming majority of respondents (94%) reported that cell towers and antennas in a neighborhood or on a building would impact interest in a property and the price they would be willing to pay for it. And 79% said under no circumstances would they ever purchase or rent a property within a few blocks of a cell tower or antenna.

Swiss teleco acknowledges RF dangers in 2003 patent application

The below document was discovered by New Zealand Lawyer Sue Grey during a document search. I do not have a url for the document yet but can send subscribers Sue’s document if requested. Sue Grey states: “Possibly a good invention but look what Swisscom (a SwissTelco) admits in terms of the biological and genotoxic effects of RF EMR (at least to the patents office, if not to the public generally).” Here’s the translation of the Swiss Telecom patient application for an invention to reduce radiation levels. It dates from 2003.
    Excerpt:

The influence of electrosmog on the human body is a known problem. The health risk from mobile radio transmitters, handys and DECT telephones has been an explosive subject among the general public at least since the enormous breakthrough in mobile radio technology in the 1990s. To meet the concerns of science from the legislative side, the permissible limit values have thus been lowered several times, and technology has been increasingly focused on this problem. The risk of damage to health through electrosmog has also become better understood as a result of more recent and improved studies. When, for example, human blood cells are irradiated with electromagnetic fields, clear damage to hereditary material has been demonstrated and there have been indications of an increased cancer risk.
    SNIP
These findings indicate that the genotoxic effect of electromagnetic radiation is elicited via a non-thermal pathway. Moreover aneuploidy is to be considered as a known phenomenon in the increase of cancer risk. Thus it has been possible to show that mobile radio radiation can cause damage to genetic material, in particular in human white blood cells, whereby both the DNA itself is damaged and the number of chromosomes changed. This mutation can consequently lead to increased cancer risk.

ICNIRP’s procrustean hegemony under attack in the EC.

In the following article, the GSMA (the telco trade association representing the interests of mobile operators worldwide), bemoans the fact that their planned rollout of 4G/LTE technology in the EC is being hampered by what they call “non-science based restrictions on mobile phone antennas in some member countries”. No doubt that GSMA is also worried about the future rollout of 5G.

This shows that ICNIRP’s assurances of safety, based solely on thermal considerations, is seriously being questioned and rejected in the EC. Hopefully this ‘contagion’ will spread internationally. What is not said is that the EC doubts over ICNIRP flow directly from the widespread awareness of the Bioinitiative report.

Subjective symptoms related to GSM radiation from mobile phone base stations: a cross-sectional study

    From Manuel Portolés

Paper published on open access by the British Medical Journal

    Abstract

Objectives We performed a re-analysis of the data from Navarro et al (2003) in which health symptoms related to microwave exposure from mobile phone base stations (BSs) were explored, including data obtained in a retrospective inquiry about fear of exposure from BSs.

    Design Cross-sectional study.

    Setting La Ñora (Murcia), Spain.

Participants Participants with known illness in 2003 were subsequently disregarded: 88 participants instead of 101 (in 2003) were analysed. Since weather circumstances can influence exposure, we restricted data to measurements made under similar weather conditions.

Outcomes and methods A statistical method indifferent to the assumption of normality was employed: namely, binary logistic regression for modelling a binary response (eg, suffering fatigue (1) or not (0)), and so exposure was introduced as a predictor variable. This analysis was carried out on a regular basis and bootstrapping (95% percentile method) was used to provide more accurate CIs.

Results The symptoms most related to exposure were lack of appetite (OR=1.58, 95% CI 1.23 to 2.03); lack of concentration (OR=1.54, 95% CI 1.25 to 1.89); irritability (OR=1.51, 95% CI 1.23 to 1.85); and trouble sleeping (OR=1.49, 95% CI 1.20 to 1.84). Changes in –2 log likelihood showed similar results. Concerns about the BSs were strongly related with trouble sleeping (OR =3.12, 95% CI 1.10 to 8.86). The exposure variable remained statistically significant in the multivariate analysis. The bootstrapped values were similar to asymptotic CIs.

Conclusions This study confirms our preliminary results. We observed that the incidence of most of the symptoms was related to exposure levels–independently of the demographic variables and some possible risk factors. Concerns about adverse effects from exposure, despite being strongly related with sleep disturbances, do not influence the direct association between exposure and sleep.
