Aggressive Brain Tumors Tell a Story

    From Louis Slesin, Microwave News:
Location, Location, Location, Aggressive Brain Tumors Tell a Story
GBM Rise Only in Frontal and Temporal Lobes

    This one is important.

A U.K. epidemiologist has confirmed that glioblastoma (GBM), the most aggressive type of brain tumor, is on the rise in England. Frank de Vocht of the University of Bristol is reporting that he sees a significant and consistent increase in GBM in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain over the last 20-30 years.

Alasdair Philips, an independent researcher based in Scotland, first documented the increase last March.

But when it comes to the cause, they see things differently. De Vocht says it can’t be cell phones. Philips can’t think what else it could be. To make his case, Philips sent me a graph of GBM by location in the brain in England over the last 20 years.

Please take a look. I think you’ll agree: It looks like we have a public health problem on our hands.

Newsweek just published a major article on cell phone research

Do Cellphones Cause Cancer? Government Study Reveals ‘Stunningly Important’ Findings
By Ronnie Cohen On 7/19/18 at 6:30 AM
    Excerpt:

Tiffany Frantz got her first cellphone when she was 16. She loved that flip phone. Every morning, on her way out the door, she’d slip it into the left cup of her bra. When she was 21, while watching television one night with her parents in their Lancaster, Pennsylvania, living room, she felt a lump the size of a pea in her left breast, just beneath her phone. Tests later showed four cancerous tumors. “How in the world did this happen?” her mother asked.

Dr. John West believes he knows. In 2013, the Southern California breast cancer surgeon and five other doctors wrote in the journal Case Reports in Medicine about Frantz’s tumors and those of three other young women. Each of them regularly carried a cellphone in her bra. “I am absolutely convinced,” West tells Newsweek, “that there is a relationship between exposure to cellphones and breast cancer in young women who are frequent users.” … SNIP.

The inconvenient truth about cancer and mobile phones

    The Guardian

    Excerpt:

We dismiss claims about mobiles being bad for our health – but is that because studies showing a link to cancer have been cast into doubt by the industry?.
Eleven independent scientists spent three days at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, discussing the study, which was done by the National Toxicology Program of the US Department of Health and Human Services and ranks among the largest conducted of the health effects of mobile phone radiation. NTP scientists had exposed thousands of rats and mice (whose biological similarities to humans make them useful indicators of human health risks) to doses of radiation equivalent to an average mobile user’s lifetime exposure. The peer review scientists repeatedly upgraded the confidence levels the NTP’s scientists and staff had attached to the study, fuelling critics’ suspicions that the NTP’s leadership had tried to downplay the findings. Thus the peer review also found “some evidence” – one step below “clear evidence” – of cancer in the brain and adrenal glands.

Not one major news organisation in the US or Europe reported this scientific news. But then, news coverage of mobile phone safety has long reflected the outlook of the wireless industry. For a quarter of a century now, the industry has been orchestrating a global PR campaign aimed at misleading not only journalists, but also consumers and policymakers about the actual science concerning mobile phone radiation. Indeed, big wireless has borrowed the very same strategy and tactics big tobacco and big oil pioneered to deceive the public about the risks of smoking and climate change, respectively. And like their tobacco and oil counterparts, wireless industry CEOs lied to the public even after their own scientists privately warned that their products could be dangerous, especially to children. Remediation Tips From an EMF Expert (Alasdair Philips)

    From the Dr. Mercola site:

    Excerpt
    Story at-a-glance

One of the most pernicious toxins we are exposed to isn’t something you can taste, see, hear or feel; it’s invisible electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electrical wiring and wireless technologies such as your cellphone and Wi-Fi
There are basically three types of EMF: radio frequencies, microwaves and electromagnetic (electric and magnetic) fields. Low frequency magnetic fields, in particular, affect biological systems, but all forms of EMFs appear to be harmful
One mechanism of action involves intracellular calcium. EMFs activate voltage-gated calcium channels in the plasma membranes of your cells, which then open up, allowing a tremendous influx of calcium ions
Cells also start to malfunction due to excessive charges, which alter cellular activity
A number of remediation strategies are reviewed, from simply keeping your cellphone in airplane mode when not in use, to more expensive strategies such as installing shielded wiring when building a new home… SNIP

    Show Me the Studies!

    From Louis Slesin, Microwave News
Show Me the Studies! “The Nation” Resurrects an Old Controversy

George Carlo is back. … Again.

He has a leading role in an exposé in The Nation magazine, where he is portrayed as the inside man who was hired to run a $25 million health research project for the telecom industry and was later fired when he found out that cell phones present a cancer risk. At least that’s what Carlo wants you to believe. The truth is a lot messier and a lot less favorable. I revisit this old story because two seasoned reporters for The Nation call my views “preposterous.” Read my challenge for Carlo to settle the dispute by releasing a list of the 50 studies he says he sponsored during the 1990s here. And read my (second) response to The Nation here.

    Industry Lies

Wireless industry claims there is no increase in brain tumors so there is no problem with cell phones. But it is a big lie. For example, a very famous politician John McCain just got a brain tumor. You can see a big scar on the left side of his head, just where he usually holds his mobile phone.

So the government lies and claims there is no increase in cancer, tumors caused by mobile phones. The reality is there is a significant increase in Glioblastomas which are very deadly.

For the overall head, there has not been an increase in brain tumors since 2006 when the wireless was introduced. But in the three areas of the brain that get the most cell phone radiation which is your frontal lobe, temporal lobe in your cerebellum increase is significant which shows the study that was done by USC that was done 15 years before 2006…SNIP

“Clear Evidence” of Cancer Risk, Say Pathologists (NTP)

    From Louis Slesin, Microwave News:
“Clear Evidence” of Cancer Risk, Say Pathologists
Why Peer Reviewers and NTP Saw Same Animal Data Differently

Yes it did, no it didn’t, yes it did. Did cell phone radiation cause higher rates of cancer in rats –or not? It all depends how you look at the data.

Two weeks ago, a panel of pathologists and toxicologists completed a detailed review of the National Toxicology Program’s $25 million cell phone study and decided that there was “clear evidence” that both GSM and CDMA radiation can lead a rare tumor in the heart of male rats.

This was the same conclusion that the NTP had reached in May 2016, before reversing itself two months ago.

All in all, the panel recommended that the NTP upgrade seven of its findings on cell phone cancer risks, including for brain tumors.

We went to North Carolina for the peer review meeting. In our latest story, we explain each side’s reasoning and how the panelists became convinced that the risk appears to be real… SNIP

The Nation: How Big Wireless Made Us Think That Cell Phones Are Safe: A Special Investigation

Excerpt: No scientist can say with certainty how many wireless-technology users are likely to contract cancer, but that is precisely the point: We simply don’t know. Nevertheless, we are proceeding as if we do know the risk, and that the risk is vanishingly small. Meanwhile, more and more people around the world, including countless children and adolescents, are getting addicted to cell phones every day, and the shift to radiation-heavy 5G technology is regarded as a fait accompli. Which is just how Big Wireless likes it. A must read!

News Flash on the NTP Rat study

Excerpt: Cellphone radio-frequency waves can be decisively linked to cancer in rats, according to a national science panel meeting in Research Triangle Park on Wednesday. The scientists’ finding establishes the clearest connection of cellphone risk to humans in a major U.S. study to date.

The scientists made their announcement at the end of a three-day meeting to review a $25 million rodent experiment conducted by the National Toxicology Center in RTP for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The draft of the study, issued in early February, had established a weak link in some cases, but the scientific advisory panel on Wednesday said the data is more compelling and indicates greater risk than initially acknowledged.

Wednesday’s decision is expected to change the debate over cellphone safety, and public health activists predict the results will increase pressure on federal agencies to issue safety warnings and tighten safety standards of the ubiquitous electronic device…SNIP

Leszczynski: Ramazzini study shows that cell tower radiation does not increase risk for Schwannoma and glioma

Dariusz Leszczynski’s analysis draws a different conclusion on the Ramazzini study. It is sure to draw many comments on his blog: Between a Rock and a Hard Place. Keep an eye out for the discussion! Briefly, according to DL the Ramazzini findings are just a random noise and none of it is due to RF effects. This raises an interesting question over differing interpretations over the same scientific data.

Lennart Hardell on the latest UK brain tumour paper (last message)

Increasing incidence of aggressive brain tumour (glioblastoma multiforme) in England during 1995-2015
    Excerpt

A recent article describes increasing incidence of the most malignant type of brain tumor, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in England during 1995-2015. The number of patients increased from 2.4 to 5.0 per 100,000 during that time period. In total the yearly increase was from 983 to 2,531 patients, thus a substantial number. The incidence of low-grade glioma decreased but was stabilized from 2004, see figure 2. Thus the increasing incidence cannot be explained by low-grade glioma transforming to high-grade (GBM). The authors conclude that a general environmental factor must be the cause. SNIP Our results are similar to those now published from England. All results are in agreement with wireless phones (mobile phones and cordless phones) causing glioma.

Fatal Brain Tumors on the Rise in England

    From Louis Slesin, Microwave News

Fatal Brain Tumors on the Rise in England
Rate of GBM More than Doubled Between 1995 and 2015

    Excerpt

The incidence of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the deadliest type of brain tumor, more than doubled in England between 1995 and 2015, according to a new analysis of national statistics. During that time, the number of cases of GBM rose from 983 to 2,531.

“We found a sustained and highly significant increase in GBM throughout the 21 years and across all ages,” said Alasdair Philips, the lead author of the study, which has just been released online by the peer-reviewed, open access, Journal of Environmental and Public Health.

“The incidence rate of GBM, the most aggressive and quickly fatal brain tumor, is rising dramatically in England while the rates for lower grade tumors have decreased, masking this dramatic trend in the overall data,” Philips told us from his home in southern Scotland…SNIP

Leszczynski: Brief Opinion on the NTP Rat Study – “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.”

    Excerpt:

Publication of the full results of the NTP study, yet again, re-confirms what Aristotle said “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know”. No matter how disappointed some might be, this is the reality of the scientific research.

The study is a classic toxicology. Namely: rats were long-term exposed to various doses of cell phone radiation and their health was followed over the long period of time.

NTP study demonstrates that exposures to cell phone radiation cause biological and health effects in animals. This confirms that the biological and health effects in humans are possible. SNIP

Ramazzini’s Belpoggi Calls for IARC To Reassess RF Cancer Risk

Partial results of the Ramazzini Institute’s RF–animal study, which show a statistically significant increase in tumors in the hearts of male rats exposed to GSM radiation, were officially released today. They appear in Environmental Research, a peer-reviewed journal. As we reported last month, the Ramazzini finding of Schwann cell tumors –called schwannomas– in the rat hearts is consistent with a similar finding by the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) in a $25 million RF project. Major New Animal Study, Like NTP’s, Links RF to Schwannomas
    It’s happened again.

A second large study has found tumors in the Schwann cells –schwannomas– in the hearts of male rats exposed to cell phone radiation. The new finding comes from the Ramazzini Institute in Bologna, Italy. The malignant schwannomas of the heart seen in the Italian study are the same as those described by the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) earlier this month as the basis for their concern that cell phone radiation can lead to cancer. The Ramazzini paper is expected to be published within a week. SNIP

    What Changed at NTP?

    From Louis Slesin, Microwave News:
    What Changed at NTP?
Same RF Cancer Data, Different Outlook
    February 7, 2018
    Excerpt:

Why was the NTP so ambivalent about its cell phone cancer findings at the press conference last Friday when two years ago the same scientific evidence prompted a public health warning?

Some of the pathology numbers got tweaked since they were first released in 2016, but the changes were minor. It’s the same data set –but with a very different interpretation. The NTP mindset somehow shifted from we need to release this important new health data now to this is “not a high-risk situation.”

Who or what moved the NTP managers to change their outlook? There’s no shortage of suspects and suspicions. Here are a few making the rounds: SNIP

Disinformation and the NTP study findings

The Disinformation Playbook has been used for decades by corporations to delay government action on matters of great public interest that would adversely affect their income and profit. Some of the well-known examples involve the sugar industry, tobacco, oil and gas, and the National Football League. The Union of Concerned Scientists outlined the five pillars of the Playbook

    1. The Fake: Conduct counterfeit science and try to pass it off as legitimate research
    2. The Blitz: Harass scientists who speak out with results or views inconvenient for industry
    3. The Diversion: Manufacture uncertainty about science where little or none exists
    4. The Screen: Buy credibility through alliances with academia or professional societies
    5. The Fix: Manipulate government officials or processes to inappropriately influence policy

Now consider whether or not this is relevant for the headline reporting on the NTP study in MEDPAGE TODAY… And the comment following

    NTP Study – Darius Leszczynski’s first impressions…

    Excerpt
From the blog; Between a Rock and a Hard Place

    Excerpt

Today, the US NTP published results of its animal study examining effects of RF-EMF on mice and rats. Both reports are quite long to read and I had no time for detailed evaluation yet. However, in my opinion, NTP study demonstrates that exposures to cell phone radiation cause biological and health effects in animals. This confirms that biological and health effects in humans are possible.

The most significant finding, in my opinion, is the development of gliomas in exposed animals. SNIP…
