Health issues related to electromagnetic radiation exposure and chemical exposure

Is Michael Repacholi the world’s best Whirling Dervish?

Repacholi encourages parents to get their children into using mobile devices as soon as possible.

What the hell is going on? First we have the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (RNCNIRP) issuing a warning about the potential dangers to children from their use of wireless devices.http://www.emfacts.com/2012/06/wi-fi-recommendations-from-the-russian-national-committee-on-non-ionizing-radiation-protection-rncnirp/ To quote in part: Electromagnetic radiation from Wi-Fi creates an additional burden for the child brain, whose body is in a state of development and the formation of mental activity. During this period, children are most susceptible to adverse environmental factors.

Then we have a joint paper by lead author Repacholi (who fails to disclose his monumental conflict of interest) with Chairman of the RNCNIRP, Yury G. Grigoriev as a co-author, among others. http://emfacts.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=fde0125885d9f7d82a3668e7d&id=f006f810c8&e=07705a3ece

This paper does no justice to the RNCNIRP and has raised questions about what Yuri Grigoriev was thinking when he agreed to sup with the devil.

Now we have Repacholi at a GSMA industry conference stating that parents should get their children to use wireless devices so that the kids are not left behind! This is welcome news for the wireless industry, especially when coming from an expert with no conflicts of interest.

There’s enough spin going on here to topple a troop of Whirling Dervishes….

I think all this calls for the RNCNIRP to strongly respond to Repacholi’s rantings. Not to do so, in my opinion, makes it look like the Russians have been well and truly suckered by Mike.

From Joel Moskowitz:

Repacholi, did an interview with the GSMA on June 3, 2012. Here are two quotes from the 7 minute tape interview:

“We even had pediatricians who looked at the development of the embryo through to the development of the young child to find out if there were any effects of RF fields that could influence the development or behavior or mental capacity, and we couldn’t find anything above the age of two. The development process concluded to the point that RF fields wouldn’t cause any adverse consequences after that age.”

Is he admitting that there is evidence of harm below that age? He even uses some scare tactics to encourage parents to give their children cell phones at a young age:

“Children should be encouraged to use technology otherwise they will be left (eh) while other children are using the technology, and the jobs are going to go to children who knew the technology very well at a young age. Certainly, from the health viewpoint there is no concern that we’ve seen this far that parents need to be worried about children’s use of mobile phones.”

FROM: Parents Against Wi-Fi in School

This is a typical rationalisation for the implementation of laptop programs into primary schools too, but it makes no sense:

Kids already, with their regularly scheduled IT lessons know how to use PowerPoint and many other software application programs. The application software is continuously changing, so it will be different by the time the kids enter the workforce. Today’s software is so easy to use – it doesn’t take years or even months to pick up. And yet this argument is being used to tether laptops/iPads (and phones?) as constant companions to children from as young as pre-school. We’re only one step away from being accused of poor-parenting if we don’t give our kids a phone!

No-one is arguing against the advantages of SAFE technologies (always in moderation).

When Repacholi retires he could easily get a job at a place like Winthrop Australia, promoting the use of i-Somethings to pre-schools (from age 2 onwards, naturally). He could use his ‘expertise’ to update the company’s stock responses for dealing with parents who have legitimate health concerns.

The position and logic of both government authorities and the telecom industry can be summarised as follows:
“We need the telecoms services and therefore, there ARE no health effects!”
Repacholi is in a position of authority and as such is acting very irresponsibly.

Whose payroll is Mike Repacholi on? How in the world did he get an esteemed scientist, Russian radiation expert Yury Gregoriev, to co-author with him . . . not only co-author, but through the back door there seems to be an effort to debunk the precautionary principle the Russians have so rightfully held on to. Their reasoning? Repacholi and Gregoriev seem to be saying, “Yes, there are biological effects at less than 10 uWcm2, but that appears to be auto-immune related rather than pathological.”

I will say directly to Yury Grigoriev: You are an expert among experts. You have earned our respect as the consummate scientist the world over. Last year, in March of 2011, you repeated the science your country had done in decades past and CONFIRMED they — and you — were right.

Yury, you validated research findings of the earlier Soviet studies that confirmed your precautionary principle approach was absolutely correct. You found effects on immunological and reproductive functions from long-term, low-level exposure of rats to RF – EMF, a solid replication of earlier studies. This series of 5 studies was done in the spring of 2011 under the supervision, so to speak, of Michael Repacholi, then at the WHO.

With profound respect, Yury, I will remind you that you wrote, “The results of this work, along with investigations concerning chronic, low-level EMF exposure, can be used for the evaluation of the danger of RF – EMF of base stations on public health.”

We applaud you and honor you for this work. So why in the world did you co-author this disturbing paper with Mike Repacholi who has industry ties that follow him like an ominous shadow of which he will never be free, nor does he try.

We fear Repacholi is using you, and it would be a crime again science and the esteemed reputation you have built through the decades to be associated with this man who indeed has a profound conflict of interest.

We implore you to denounce you association with Repacholi who has done so much harm in this world, a man who insists children should use cell phones so they are familiar with technology because this is the way of the world. With brain tumors doubling, Yury, do you really think this is a wise idea?

Scotsman Basil King once wrote, “Be bold and mighty forced will come to your aid.” So please, Yury, be bold. The world needs you, your brilliance, your integrity, and your voice.

    Kindest Regards,
